T with a caron

Ť and ť are T with caron. In many fonts, the lowercase mark sits beside the tall stem and looks like an apostrophe. It is still part of the character; typing t followed by a quote is different.

Cedilla or comma below

Ţ and ţ have a cedilla. Ț and ț have a comma below. Use the character required by the original text, even if your font makes both marks look almost identical.

Dots, strokes and thorn

Ṫ and ṫ have a dot above; Ṭ and ṭ have a dot below. Ŧ and ŧ have a stroke through T. The collection also contains Þ and þ, called thorn, which is a separate letter rather than an accented T.

Select a character above and wait for the copy confirmation. Paste into your text with Ctrl + V on Windows, Command + V on Mac, or your phone’s Paste command. For a whole name or sentence, use the online accent keyboard. You can also browse all accent letters from A to Z.

How to type t with an accent on Windows

Using a numeric keypad

Not every marked t has a standard Windows ALT shortcut. For ț, copying is the most direct option here. In Word for Windows, you can also use the hexadecimal method described below.

No numeric keypad? Use the copy button or the Word method. If your laptop has an embedded keypad, check its own instructions for enabling it.

Type ț with Alt + X in Word

In Word for Windows, 021B is the hexadecimal value for ț. Alt + X converts that value into the letter, without requiring a numeric keypad.

  • Put your cursor at the insertion point in Word.
  • Type 021B, without the U+ prefix.
  • Highlight only the code, then press ALT + X.
  • Check that the code has become ț.

See Microsoft’s character-code instructions for details about code entry. For other characters, browse the ALT code directory.

On a Mac, phone, or tablet

On a Mac, try holding a letter key in an app that supports the accent menu. If the form you need is missing, copy it here and paste with Command + V. On a phone or tablet, select a character and use your destination app’s Paste command. See Apple’s accent guide for Mac options.

T with an accent: common questions

Answers to help you choose the correct form and keep its marks intact.

Choose Ț for uppercase or ț for lowercase. These differ from Ţ and ţ, T with cedilla.

No. It is T with caron, encoded as a letter with its mark.

Þ and þ are thorn. They are related reference characters in this collection, not T with a dot or accent.
