Acute accent and caron
Ḱ and ḱ have a single sloping acute accent. Ǩ and ǩ have a v-shaped caron. These are separate letter forms, even if a small or handwritten mark makes them look similar.
Marks below K
Ķ and ķ are named K with cedilla; many fonts give the mark a comma-like shape. Ḳ and ḳ have a dot below, while Ḵ and ḵ have a line below. Use the character names to confirm your choice.
Hooked K is a different shape
Ƙ and ƙ change the letter’s outline with a hook. They are not plain K with an accent floating above it. Match the shape used in your source, including any mark or stroke.
Select a character above and wait for the copy confirmation. Paste into your text with Ctrl + V on Windows, Command + V on Mac, or your phone’s Paste command. For a whole name or sentence, use the online accent keyboard. You can also browse all accent letters from A to Z.

How to type k with an accent on Windows
Using a numeric keypad
Not every marked k has a standard Windows ALT shortcut. For ķ, copying is the most direct option here. In Word for Windows, you can also use the hexadecimal method described below.
Type ķ with Alt + X in Word
In Word for Windows, 0137 is the hexadecimal value for ķ. Alt + X converts that value into the letter, without requiring a numeric keypad.
- Put your cursor at the insertion point in Word.
- Type 0137, without the U+ prefix.
- Highlight only the code, then press ALT + X.
- Check that the code has become ķ.
See Microsoft’s character-code instructions for details about code entry. For other characters, browse the ALT code directory.
On a Mac, phone, or tablet
On a Mac, try holding a letter key in an app that supports the accent menu. If the form you need is missing, copy it here and paste with Command + V. On a phone or tablet, select a character and use your destination app’s Paste command. See Apple’s accent guide for Mac options.
